KARACHI, July 15: A policeman was booked for allegedly killing his daughter and her friend inside his rented house near the Malir Cantonment, police said on Monday.

The bodies of Kaneez Sakina, 20, and Majid Ali, 30, with their throat slit were recovered from the house in Bilal Jokhio Goth, said Malir Cantt SHO Arshad Hussain Leghari.

The double murder could be described as an honour killing, said the SHO, adding that the suspect went missing following the incident.

Mr Leghari said the police constable, Ayaz Hussain Shah, had shifted from Larkana to the rented house in Bilal Jokhio Goth around five days ago. The policeman was posted in Larkana, he added.

The police officer said that Majid said to be a cameraman associated with a private TV channel was familiar with the police constable for the past one year and used to visit their home in Larkana. “It was Majid who had arranged the rented house for the Shah family here,” he said.

It appeared that the suspect had trapped Majid and killed both of them with a knife.

The police registered an FIR against Mr Shah and his brother Amir Shah on a complaint of the victim’s brother, Nazakat Ali, under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

In his statement, the complainant told the police that both victims were in love

with each other. The police constable and his brother had invited Mr Ali to discuss the marriage proposal on Sunday night where they killed them.

Two Rangers personnel wounded

Two Rangers personnel were shot at and wounded by suspected robbers in the Sachal area in the early hours of Monday, police said.

Six armed men were looting people near Paradise Bakery when the Rangers personnel, Azam and Haseem, passing through the area on a motorcycle came under attack, said Sachal SHO Aijaz Ali Rajpar.

There was an outage in the area and one of the Rangers personnel was riding the bike while the other was holding some stuff for Sehri, said Sohrab Goth DSP Mohammad Khalid.

On seeing them, the DSP said, the suspects opened fire on them and fled towards Sikandar Goth.

Later, police and Rangers conducted a search operation in Sikandar Goth and detained 25 suspects, including six alleged robbers, who were taken away by the Rangers for interrogation, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Rangers said that both the wounded personnel were said to be out of danger.
