MINGORA, July 24: The court of additional district and sessions judge in Bahrain here on Wednesday sent 14 persons including a local cleric to jail for holding a jirga to give two girls in swara to the rival family.

According to police, the accused had held a jirga on 26 June at Sataal area of Bahrain and decided to give two daughters of Humayun to the sons of Inzar Gul in swara to resolve an honour-related issue between the two families.

Police later arrested 14 people including local cleric Maulvi Abdul Wahid, former naib nazim Mohammad Gul, Hamayun, the father of girls, Inzar Gul, the father of the boys, and other members of the jirga.

All the accused got bail before arrest from the local court, however, their bail was cancelled on Tuesday and police presented them on Wednesday before the court of Additional Sessions Judge Khalid Khan Mohmand to seek their physical remand.

The court ordered police to shift all the accused to the district jail in Timargara instead of giving them in custody of police for physical remand.

Meanwhile, Swat district administration has banned open sale of minced meat and import of liver, offal and other parts of animals from other districts.

Assistant Commissioner Farrukh Attique directed all butchers in the district to put nets on all types of meat, beef and chickens.

“No mince should be sold in open,” he said in a statement and added that customers should buy meat and then the butcher should convert it into mince in front of customers.

He said that liver, offal and other parts of cows and goats etc should not be imported from other districts.

The official added that all such items would be destroyed by the administration that would launch a campaign on Thursday in that regard.
