Old feuds claim three lives

CHARSADDA, July 26: Three persons were gunned down over old feuds in separate incidents here on Friday, police said.

Sar Dheri police said Mehboob Ali told them that his brother, Inayat alias Khan, was shot dead by his rivals in Dosara locality. A case was registered against Aurang Zeb, Jehan Zeb, and Zuber.

In Utmanzai, Shah Iran, Zaffar and others shot Tahir Uddin dead. Similarly, Aqil was killed by his rivals at Spina Adera.

Meanwhile, Ghani Khan (21) of Batgram drowned while taking bath at Kabul River in Haji Zai area. His body was fished out by local divers.

On the other hand, a passer-by (40) was killed during a gunfight between two groups in Saro Kalley police limits.

Meanwhile, local police said Javed of Prang Ghar here, was killed by his rivals at Jamrud, Khyber agency.

And, a man, Shahabullah of Utmanzai Piran, committed suicide by shooting himself dead with a gun. —Correspondent

Kidnappers’ gang busted

KARAK, July 26: A team of Latamber police led by SHO Jehangir Khan on Friday arrested an organised kidnappers’ gang, including a woman. Officials said the police raided a hideout in Basti Kala and arrested Noor Shehzad of Mandawa, Naqeebullah of Latamber and their female accomplice, Khayali Marjana.

Meanwhile, unknown thieves took away Rs85,000 from a mobile shop in Karak city during Friday prayers. Karak police registered case on the complaint of the shop owner and started efforts to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, Karak police on Friday arrested a man for posing as an influential government official and depriving the people of money.

Police identified the impersonator as Waheed, resident of Alamsheri, who had service cards of different posts.

They said the accused had been minting money from people through blackmailing tactics, adding he was sent to lockup. —Correspondent

Tobacco growers’ concerns

PESHAWAR, July 26: The Kisan Board, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has demanded of the government to ensure sale of tobacco at the agreed price of Rs162 per kilogram and protect farmers from being exploited by tobacco purchasing companies.

Speaking at a protest meeting here on Friday, the board’s provincial president Rizwanullah Khan said tobacco price had been fixed at Rs162 per kilogram at a joint meeting of farmers, relevant companies and government representatives, but now the companies were avoiding paying the price to farmers.

Similarly, he said the scale system was faulty, adding companies rejected the price of tobacco on the pretext of grading which caused them huge financial losses.

Mr Rizwan said hailstorm had destroyed tobacco crop but the government was yet to compensate the farmers. “If the government fails to compensate the farmers they will launch protest demonstrations,” he warned. —Bureau Report

Demo against attack on shrine

PESHAWAR, July 26: Jamiat Talba Islam members on Friday held a protest demonstration outside Peshawar Press Club against the attack on shrines of Hazarat Bibi Zainab and Khalid Bin Waleed in Syria and demanded of the Ummah to raise voice against these attacks.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for arrest of the attackers and exemplary punishment to them.

On the occasion, the JTI leaders Fazal Rabbi, Hafiz Abu Bakr and Mohammd Adnan said shrine of Bibi Zainab was a revered place for the Muslims of all sects.

The attack, they said was a well organised conspiracy against Muslims and that it was duty of all the Muslim states to raise voice against the attack. They also demanded of the United Nations to ensure protection to the holy places around the world. —Bureau Report

PTI office-bearers

CHARSADDA, July 26: Expressing no-confidence in the PTI Tangi tehsil cabinet, about 120 members of various union councils on Friday elected new office-bearers during a meeting here.

The meeting was held at the residence of Haji Roshan Khan with PTI central vice president Mian Mukaram Shah Kakakhel in the chair.

The new office-bearers alleged that the tehsil cabinet of PTI was non-functional and ineffective as it was formed after rigging. They said the cabinet had failed to play active role in the May 11 election.

The newly-elected office-bearers included Abdul Wakeel president, Malak Habibur Rehman senior vice president, Sakhi Jan Mohmand and Abdul Majeed vice presidents, Qasim Ali general secretary, Daud Jan youth secretary and Bughdadi Shah finance secretary. —Correspondent
