QUETTA: Armed militants torched a Karachi bound container in the militancy-hit Balochistan province on Friday.

Munir Ahmed, a levies official told Dawn.com armed militants opened indiscriminate fire at a container forcing it to stop in Dasht area of Mastung district.

He said the driver of the container escaped unhurt.

"Then militants came close to the container and set it on fire," Ahmed said.

He said a fire brigade was called from Quetta to extinguish the blaze.

"Fire can be seen from quite far away," the levies official said.

The militants sped away from the spot after the attack. Levies and frontier corps personnel reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Militants have been targeting US, Nato supplies and private containers along with trucks in the area for the last few years.

In another incident, two persons including a woman and child were injured in two mysterious blasts in Chaman town.

A levies official, who requested not to be named since he was not authorized to speak to media, told Dawn.com that the blasts happened in Daman Kahol area of Chaman town.

The injured were rushed to civil hospital Chaman for medical treatment. The official said two mysterious bombs went off at a house.

The blasts destroyed the house and damaged nearby houses. Security forces faced difficulties in cording off the area due to the crowd that had gathered at the spot of blasts.

"The nature of the blast is yet to be confirmed," the official said.
