ANP leader Najma Hanif gunned down in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Unknown miscreants gunned down Awami National Party (ANP) leader Najma Hanif after breaking into her house in Peshawar late on Friday night.
She was gunned down at her residence in phase one of the upscale Hyatabad neighbourhood of Peshawar.
Police sources told Dawn.com that unknown gunmen opened fire at Najma Hanif after breaking into her home just before midnight on Friday. The attackers managed to escape the site unhurt and unidentified, they added.
In-charge of police unit at Hyatabad Medical Complex, Ismail khan has confirmed that Najma Hanif was hit in the head and face and was received dead at the hospital.
It is pertinent to mention that her husband Hanif Jadoon, who also was an ANP leader, was killed along with his son and guard in a suicide bomb attack in July 2011.
The ANP leader was a candidate for a provincial assembly seat reserved for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her body has been sent to her native town in Swabi district.
ANP chief Asfandyar Wali has condemned the brutal killing saying sacrifices of Najma’s family will always be remembered.

It seems Pakistani rulers will take no action to wipe out militancy and terrorism in Pakistan even if Mian Nawaz Sharif or Mian Nisar or their loved ones are gunned down. Pakistan has excellent army but the rulers of Pakistan are themselves scared of militants and terrorists.

This obviously looks like a taliban execution. May Allah rest her soul and those of her late husband and son and their guard in Jannat. Although not a ANP supporter personally, it is brave Pakistanis like these that allow the rest of us to breathe the air of freedom. Everything good in Pakistan has been built on the base of such courageous and honourable people.

A very sad event. I am shocked to know that this brave lady was living with the loss of her son and husband. I pray that she had no more kids. Otherwise it will be a burden to live each day for them without parents and siblings.

I commend Ms. Hanif for being so fearless! After seeing her husband and son being killed, one would expect her to go into hiding. But no, death did not scare her and she was willing to stand for what she believed in, whatever the consequences. I am sure she believed that death is not the end - but continuation of life, since it is our soul that is eternal. God bless this brave woman - who has truly inspired a lot of us.

What a tragedy. May her soul rest in peace. She looks so motherly and kind and harmless in her pic.
A few days ago one woman on a bike was felled by a car. The hit-and-run driver fled the scene. While people gave her first aid one miscreant was caught emptying her purse. How low has humanity come to in Toronto. Here in Detroit the murder rate has inched up to 6 times that of Karachi. In Cairo 600 murdered by govt in a day. Qiyamat must be close at hand.

Can Pakistan ever get rid of the militants? I doubt it, as long as scared and corrupt politicians are in power! I think what needs to be done is all those areas, where the militants are supposed to be living, should be given a few days notice for all law abiding people to get away, and then bombard the locality/region and level every thing. Unless some drastic measures are taken, Pakistan can never get rid of the militants/talibans. They need to be dealt with ruthlessly...and wiped out completely! Maybe a few innocent lives might be lost..but this is a sacrifice and the price the nation has to pay for positive results, peace and prosperity.
