RAWALPINDI, Aug 16: Blood test reports have confirmed that a patient admitted to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) on August 8 is suffering from Congo Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).

However, National Institute of Health (NIH) has cleared another patient, who was admitted on same date, of congo virus and she will likely to be discharged within next few days.

Yasmeen wife of Nissan Ahmed, aged 35, belonged to Kalar Kahar arrived at HFH on August 8 with continued nasal and throat bleeding and was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where doctors suspected her as a patient of CCHF.

Another patient, Tahira, 24, daughter of Mohammad Mushtaq, of Azad Kashmir arrived at HFH with continued throat bleeding and vomiting and was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where doctors suspected her as a patient of CCHF.

The doctors dispatched blood samples of the patient to National Institute of Health (NIH) for test on August 8. However, the reports received after eight days instead of two days.

“Usually, it took two to three days for the pathological test of Congo but due to Eid holidays the reports received after eight days,” said HFH official.

“We have received the report from the National Institute of Health (NIH) that the patient from Kalar Kahar was not the patient of Congo virus,” said Dr Javed Hayyat, In-charge infectious diseases at the hospital.

He said that another patient from Azad Kashmir was victim of congo but her report would be received on Saturday.—A Reporter
