More rains forecast amid flood havoc

LAHORE: With most of the rivers playing havoc downstream, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has forecast fairly widespread thunderstorm/rain, with isolated heavy showers over upper catchments of rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej for Tuesday.

The FFD said that the river Indus was flowing in medium flood at Taunsa-Guddu and in low flood at Chashma and Sukkur barrages while the river Chenab was in low flood at Trimmu and river Ravi was in high flood at Balloki and low flood at Shahdara.

The Met report forecast scattered thundershowers over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Gujranwala divisions and isolated thundershower over DG Khan division over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, India which released water in Sutlej on Monday released water in Rohi Nullah which inundated a border village and was now threatening Kasur town.

The discharge of water in the Sutlej near Kasur was about 125,000 cusecs.

Besides flooding villages and farmland in Kasur, Sutlej inundated a vast area in Bahawalnagar and Vehari districts.

Nullah Dek continued wreaking havoc on Kamoke area of Gujranwala district.

Dek and river Ravi also flooded dozens of villages in Sheikhupura district.

River Chenab flooded dozens of villages in Pindi Bhattian and Jhang districts. It was now posing a threat to Multan and Muzaffargarh.

Similarly, Ravi caused havoc in Balloki, Sahiwal and and Toba Tek Singh riverine areas.
