ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Saturday foiled a possible terror plot when it detained two suspects and seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions from a house during a search operation in Islamabad’s Khayaban-i-Kashmir area, DawnNews reported.

On receiving a tip-off, police personnel carried out the search operation in G-15’s Khayaban-i-Kashmir locality.

During the raid, police recovered 20 Kalashnikovs, four pistols, remote-controlled spying instruments, a hand-grenade, a wireless set and a huge quantity of explosives and detonators from a house.

Moreover, four remote-controlled fiber planes used for the purpose of spying were also seized in the raid.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team defused the explosive materials recovered in the raid.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier on August 31, police seized an explosives-laden vehicle in Islamabad’s Bhara Kahu area.

Islamabad is the political capital of Pakistan and a number of search operations have been carried out in the city in the recent past.

The city houses the Presidency and the Supreme Court and authorities in the past have also claimed to have foiled attacks on the Parliament which lies adjacent to the Aiwan-i-Sadr.

Islamabad has also witnessed terrorist attacks in the past, among which the bombing targeting the Marriott Hotel has been the most well-known.
