LAHORE, Sept 11: A judicial magistrate of district courts remanded on Wednesday a man in police custody for five days and directed the police to complete investigation in a murder case against the accused for killing his minor daughter by throwing into the River Ravi.

Shahdara police produced accused Muhammad Umar, a rickshaw driver, before the magistrate and sought his physical remand.

The investigating officer told the court that the body of the minor girl was yet to be recovered from the river, adding the physical custody of the accused was necessary for retrieving the body.

The police had registered an FIR against Umar on the complaint of his wife, Sumaira Bibi.

The couple had two minor daughters – three-year-old Fatima and one-and-a-half-year old Zainab. Umar took his family to the Ravi on a picnic and threw Zainab into the river.

The accused had already confessed to his crime during police interrogation. Since he nurtured a grudge against his wife for not giving birth to a male baby, he killed his daughter.
