RAWALPINDI: Strongly condemning the attack on the Christain community in Peshawar, Maulana Sami ul Haq has said that peace is unlikely without talks with the Taliban, DawnNews reported.

Denouncing the Peshawar church blast that led to 84 deaths, he said that Islam safeguards the rights of the minorities.

He said that he was saddened by Chaudry Nisar's statements and went on to add that the decision to meet with the Taliban would be reviewed upon Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif return to the country.

He called the All Parties Conference (APC) a ‘waste of time’.

“Our politics is based on defending the nation and enforcing shariah,” he said while discussing politics in the country.

“If drone attacks are carried out on people, then they were will be forced to carry out suicide attacks,” he said.

Calling the ‘Taliban peace talks’ a positive move, he said the initiative “must not be cast aside to facilitate a war waged by others”.

“The prime minister must inform the United Nations about the issues faced by Pakistan. The entire country is burning due to this war on terror,” he said.

On the subject of law and order situation in Karachi, he said that the parties involved in targeted killings have been exposed by the Supreme Court and must be declared as terrorist organisations by the government.

He demanded the dissolution of Council of Islamic Ideology at the earliest and stressed that no change in blasphemy laws would be tolerated.
