PESHAWAR, Oct 4: A policeman was injured in a roadside blast, while a senior doctor was kidnapped here on Monday.

A Peshtakhara police station official said a police van was damaged when a roadside bomb went off near the Tajabad graveyard. “Suspected militants had planted an IED near the graveyard to target the police. However, the attackers failed to blow up the van, and only windowpanes of the vehicle were smashed,” he said.

The injured policeman identified as sub-inspector Namdar Khan, was shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital.Similarly, a police spokesman said dozens of suspected people, including seven proclaimed offenders, were arrested during raids. He said Afghan nationals were also among those taken into custody.

Police also recovered three Kalashnikovs, 16 pistols, one rifle and hundreds of cartridges from them.

Meanwhile, a police official said armed motorcyclists abducted a senior doctor, Kamran Amir Khan, from Hayatabad on Thursday night. He said the doctor, belonging to Dar Mangi village at Warsak Road, was living in Hayatabad. He was kidnapped from a street near his residence. — Bureau Report
