KARACHI, Oct 8: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will encourage and provide all possible assistance to the exporters of services to accelerate economic growth and job creation.

This was stated by Rabyia Javeri Agha secretary TDAP at the inaugural session of a training workshop on ‘Trade in Services” recently organised under the European Union funded TRTA II program.

The training course was jointly conducted by ITC and PITAD in collaboration with TDAP in Karachi.

The training was imparted by Professor Pierre Sauve, head of academics and external program at the World Trade Institute, Switzerland.

Professor Pierre Sauve elaborated on the importance of services trade and comparative policy environment in different countries.

He explained the rules of thumb for services negotiations and covered various commitments of Pakistan in bilateral services trade agreements.

Particular attention was given to analysing and identifying Pakistan’s negotiating priorities in the Trade in services Agreement (TISA).

PITAD director general Sajjid Hussain emphasised the need to develop capacity to export services said that the contribution of services is more than 52 per cent in the GDP but needs to be further developed so that Pakistan benefits form the vast export opportunities available in this sector.
