KARACHI, Oct 9: An anti-terrorism court was informed on Wednesday that a 13-year-old schoolgirl was subjected to a sexual assault before she was killed.

The police produced four suspects — a female cousin of the victim, her husband and their two male accomplices — in court after the expiry of their police remand in the kidnapping and killing case of the teenage schoolgirl.

The investigation officer (IO) of the case told the judge of the ATC-II that medical reports confirmed that the schoolgirl was raped before the murder.

He said that the samples of male suspects were collected and sent to Islamabad for DNA tests in order to ascertain the alleged rapists.

The police have not yet incorporated the relevant section pertaining to rape in the FIR.

The court sent the suspects to prison on judicial remand till Oct 22 and directed the IO to submit a charge-sheet on the next date.

The student of Class IV was taken away from her school in Federal B. Area on Sept 24 and she was found murdered on the Seaview beach on Sept 26.

The suspects were booked under Sections 365-A (kidnapping for ransom), 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Azizabad police station on a complaint of the deceased’s father.

Two eyewitnesses had also picked out the couple and assigned their roles about the kidnapping of the victim girl during an identification parade held before a judicial magistrate a few days ago.

AVCC chief issued contempt notice

An anti-terrorism court issued on Wednesday a contempt of court notice to the chief of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for failing to appear in court to explain a defective investigation in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of a doctor for ransom.

Mohammad Azeem, Jameel and Mohammad Abid have been booked for allegedly abducting Dr Mohammad Saleem for ransom in Liaquatabad in May 2013.

Earlier, the court had issued a show-cause notice to the AVCC chief, a senior superintendent of police, for approving a defective investigation report and directed him to appear before it and explain his position.

However, neither he appeared in court nor sent a reply. Thus, the judge of ATC-II issued a contempt of court notice against him for Oct 14.

The investigating officer had submitted a Class-A (untraceable evidence) report against the suspects in court.

Surprisingly, the IO had charge-sheeted the suspects after getting approval from the competent authority (the SSP) a few days after the submission of the first report.

However, the court observed that the IO conducted a faulty investigation since he did not record the statements of the complainant and captive while the memo about the inspection of the crime-scene was also not attached with the charge-sheet.

Subsequently, the court had issued show-cause notices to the SSP and the IO on a pervious hearing. The IO had submitted his reply in court.

According to the prosecution, the victim was abducted on May 29, 2013 in Liaquatabad and the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs30 million for his release. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the AVCC, a specialised unit of the police probing kidnapping for ransom cases, had raided a house in Gulshan-i-Maymar on June 1 and recovered the captive after an encounter.

Some of the suspects managed to escape and one of their accomplices, identified as Mohammad Naveed, was killed in the shootout, it added.

The detained suspects were arrested on June 12.

A case (FIR 112/13) was registered under Sections 365-A (kidnapping for ransom) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on a complaint of the victim’s brother at the Liaquatabad police station.
