HO CHI MINH CITY: Sales of electronics products remain gloomy in HCM City despite the launch of many promotional programmes by retailers.

Cho Lon electronics supermarket in District 5 began to offer attractive discounts on TVs, cameras, mobile phones, and household appliances since last week, but sales have not improved much.

Some products like CD and DVD players, digital cameras, and mobile phones carry discounts of up to 50 per cent, but have failed to attract customers, a sales staff said.

Laptops, TVs, and refrigerators are being offered at remarkable discounts, but again sales have not improved much, he added.

Other retailers like Thien Hoa and Nguyen Kim in Districts 5, 12, and Tan Phu also said it is business as usual despite large discounts.

Le Van Tan, a sales staff at Thien Hoa store on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, said there has been no rise in sales despite discounts of 10-50 per cent on many products.

But Le Tan Loc, the store's deputy director, said with the discounts on offer he was hopeful the electronics market would warm up soon since the Tet shopping season has started.

Thien Hoa would continue to launch promotions through the year end, he said.

Though electronics store Nguyen Kim has seen a slight rise in number of customers this month compared to the two previous months, it is still too early to say if sales would be better, an employee said.

Nguyen Kim offers its customers 30-day trial use of certain Japanese branded electronics products, a zero-interest hire purchase scheme, and longer warranty periods for certain products.
