LAHORE, Oct 21: The National Institute of Health, Islamabad, has declared that a man, suspected to be a patient of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in Lahore, is not carrying the tick-borne viral infection.

Communicable Disease Control Director Jafar Ilyas told Dawn on Monday that Zeshan, 31, of Iqbal Town was shifted to a private hospital on Ferozepur Road some days before Eid with symptoms of Congo virus and the doctors admitted him for the case investigation and treatment.

He said blood samples of the patient were sent to the NIH and its report received a couple of days ago declared the result negative.

No dengue death: A health department official said on Monday that no patient died of dengue at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital.

Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Director Jafar Ilyas said that a young patient, Talha, had been shifted to hospital about two weeks ago where he died after a few days.

He said the duty doctor mentioned on the death certificate of the patient multiple diseases, including dengue fever, as causes of his death.

Mr Ilyas said Shaikh Zayed Hospital Chairman Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal had constituted a committee of senior doctors to probe the actual cause of the death of the patient.He said the committee after analyzing all diagnostic reports declared that dengue was not the cause of Talha’s death.
