KARACHI: Rangers and police personnel Thursday arrested more than 50 suspects during targeted operations in different areas of Karachi, DawnNews reported.

Rangers’ personnel conducted operations in the areas of Lyari’s Sango Lane, Liaquatabad, Jut Line, Burns Road, Orangi, Landhi, Korangi, Rafah-i-Aam society and arrested 29 suspects. According to a Rangers’ spokesman, the accused persons included Lyari gang-war suspects and some were said to have links with political parties. Moreover, arms were also recovered from the suspects during the raids.

Separately, police personnel conducted an operation at the Fancy View Apartments near Sohrab Goth on Karachi’s Super Highway and arrested more than 20 suspects. Furthermore, arms were also seized during the raid. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Nasir Aftab, suspects involved in the targeted killing of policemen were amongst the arrested men.

Meanwhile, the city’s East Zone police arrested 33 suspects, including two proclaimed offenders and 10 fugitives during targeted operations in the past 24 hours, along with recovering arms and weapons from the accused men.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
