KHAR, Oct 27: Unidentified armed persons shot dead a member of Salarzai Peace Committee in Dara area of Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

According to the local administration, Ghaus Rehman, a member of the village defence committee, was on way to his home from the bazaar when unidentified gunmen opened firing on him. He was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to agency headquarters hospital in Khar where he succumbed to his wounds.

The members of local peace committee and personnel of Bajaur Levies reached the spot soon after the incident but the assailants managed to escape. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The local administration with the help of the members of peace committee arrested several suspected during a joint search operation in the area.

Meanwhile, security forced defused several explosive devices planted along a road in Lovisam area of tehsil Khar on Sunday.

Officials said that local people informed the administration about the presence of the explosive devices in the area.

The security forces with the help of volunteers of local defence committee launched search operation in the area and recovered several explosive devices. The devices were defused safely.

The administration has beefed up security across the agency to maintain law and order in the region. Officials said that additional personnel of Levies were deployed at various checkpoints and sensitive places to avert any untoward incident. —Correspondent
