KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi Saturday remanded Muttahida man Kazim Abbas Rizvi, prime suspect in the murder of Advocate Naimat Ali Randhawa, to jail custody till November 18, DawnNews reported.

The senior lawyer Randhawa, who was also a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s (PML-N) legal wing in Sindh, was shot dead in an attack in the city’s Nazimabad area on September 26 that also left his lawyer son injured.

Rizvi, who was arrested on Sept 30, was earlier given in police custody till Oct 18 for interrogation and investigation.

On October 1, Karachi police chief Shahid Hayat had said that suspect Rizvi was associated with the Unit 178 of the MQM organisational structure, adding that during the initial investigation, the suspect had confessed to killing Advocate Randhawa.

He said that the suspect had killed the lawyer for pursuing the case of TV reporter Wali Khan Babar who had been killed in 2011.

The suspect was also involved in targeted killings of eight other people, DIG Hayat had said during the Oct 1 briefing, adding that raids were being carried out to arrest three other accomplices of the suspect.

Rizvi was produced in the ATC today during a hearing of the Randhawa murder case.

Following a short hearing, the court sent Rizvi to prison on judicial remand till November 18.

Meanwhile, the ATC also ordered the physical remand of Farhat Abbas, suspect in the Qari Inayat murder case, till November 4 and handed him over to the authorities.
