Karachi violence claims 11 lives

KARACHI: At least 11 people were killed in separate incidents of violence in Karachi on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.
The recent wave of violence appears to have intensified with the month of Muharram beginning on Wednesday.
Two persons were killed in a gunfiring incident at a hotel near Chamra Chowrangi in Karachi's Korangi Industrial Area.
A trussed up body was found in Ali Mohammad neighbourhood of Karachi's Lyari area. The victims was shot to death after being kidnapped.
Another two persons, including a former local counselor belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz, were killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on them near Defence Mor (the intersection between Korangi Road and Sunset Boulevard).
A moazin was shot dead by unknown assailants in Defence Housing Authority Phase I. The victim was shot in the head and died before rescue or security teams could reach the site.
Police personnel said that the incident appeared to a a targeted attack.
A body was recovered in Korangi's Nasir jump area, which was shifted to JPMC.
Throat-slit bodies of a couple were found inside a water tank of a house located near Qatar Mor area of Orangi Town area.
One person was killed and another wounded in a gunfiring incident in Orangi Town No 2 area of Karachi.
Another body, bearing marks of torture, was discovered in Ittehad town area in Karachi Baldia locality.
The spike in violence and targeted attacks comes a day after Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited the port city and lauded the efforts of Karachi police and Rangers for restoring peace in the city.
Karachi, the largest metropolitan city and economic capital of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
Moreover, these operations on Tuesday were termed a failure by a Senator belonging to Karachi's dominant political party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
