RAWALPINDI, Nov 22: A clash between police and a group of protesters, who tried to attack an imambargah on Ghazni Road (tyre market), left a senior police officer and his gunman injured here on Friday, police said.

DSP City Circle, Raja Taifoor, was on duty at Raja Bazar, with his gunman, when a group of protesters tried to attack an imambargah. On seeing the police, the mob started pelting stones on them, injuring DSP Taifoor and his gunman Mohammad Ismail. “The DSP was slightly injured. However, his gunman suffered fractures on his hand,” the investigating officer said.

The reinforcement of police was called on the scene to control the mob. However, the police have arrested at least 16 people involved in the attack.

When CPO Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka was contacted, he confirmed the arrests of 16 people for attempting to attack an Imambargah.

“Any person who tried to create law and order situation or tried to violated ban on use of loudspeaker will be treated according to the law,” the CPO said.—Staff Reporter
