RAWALPINDI, Nov 23: Tehreek Nifaz-i-Fiqah Jafaria (TNFJ) chief Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi on Saturday rejected the constitution of a judicial commission, tasked with investigating the recent Rawalpindi riots, and alleged that the panel was not impartial. He said the investigation should be carried out by the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the TNFJ alleged that head of the commission could not be deemed impartial after the arrest of innocent people in the case. He said the Shia sect had more confidence in the chief justice of the apex court.

“There must be three to five judges… (in) the commission keeping in view the sensitivity of the incident,” said the statement. It urged Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to hear the case.

The statement maintained that local and international human rights organisations should take notice of the “injustice being done to the Barelvi and Shia schools of thought and other minorities” in the country.
