KARACHI, Nov 25: A four-member Pakistan snooker team leaves here for Riga, Latvia early Tuesday morning to compete in the IBSF world amateur snooker championship being held at Daugavpils from Wednesday.

Mohammad Asif, who captured the world title in Sofia, Bulgaria, last year, will defend his crown. Other members of the team are Imran Shehzad, Shahid Aftab and Mohammad Sajjad.

Senior vice-president of the PBSF, Abdul Wahid Qadir, will accompany the team as manager while Shabbir Hussain will proceed as referee.

Meanwhile, the PBSF President Alamgir Shaikh had to travel to Islamabad twice in a week to secure Schengen visas for the cueists from the German Embassy.

“Yes I’ve obtained the visas and will be returning to Karachi from Islamabad tonight,” Alamgir told Dawn from Islamabad.—Sports Correspondent
