THIS is with reference to the news item ‘Robbers kill policeman in DSP’s house’ (Dawn Metropolitan, Nov 21). I couldn’t help seeing the irony in the incident.

We are told all the time by the police to keep copies of our servants’ CNICs, yet here is a police officer who didn’t follow this rule. His guard, a constable, had introduced a servant and his wife, but they turned out to be robbers and killed the constable himself before looting the house.

Since the family did not have copies of the servants’ identity cards, the police are unable to trace them.

But then, isn’t this symptomatic of what’s happening in the country: those who make rules never observe them?
