MULTAN: Deputy secretary National Assembly Moazzam Kalru was kidnapped near the suburbs of Multan on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

According to the police, Kalru was kidnapped from Multan's Nawabpur area when he was en route by car to his farmhouse.

Two days earlier, he had arrived from Islamabad.

Police said the deputy secretary was returning from his mango farm in Sandilian when four armed men on a motorcycle and in a car kidnapped him.

Following the incident, police blocked the area and a search operation went underway.

Police sources said Kalru's cell phone activity was last detected in the vicinity of Multan's Umerkot area.

Meanwhile, CCO Multan Sultan Chaudhry inspected his area of residence and sought information from his relatives.

Kalru's uncle told the police that his family did not have personal enmity with anyone and that they were engaged in preparations for the upcoming local government (LG) elections.

Police suspected that a small gang-war group was responsible for the abduction.

It may be mentioned that Kalru was kidnapped from NA-151 which is the same constituency from where former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's son Ali Haider was kidnapped earlier last year.
