PESHAWAR: Two children were killed Thursday when a toy bomb exploded in Landi kotal Tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Political administration officials said a toy-like bomb was found at the roadside by children in Zakakhel Bazaar. They were playing with it when it exploded, killing them on the spot.

The political tehsildar of the agency, Daftar Khan, confirmed that two children were killed in the blast.

Khyber is part of Pakistan’s semi-autonomous tribal belt on the Afghan border. The Taliban and other Al Qaeda-linked groups, who stage attacks in both countries, are known to have strongholds in the zone.
