Looks like a world of fantasy for Pakistanis. The clothes that these models are wearing is nothing like what women in Pakistan wear. I just visited Karachi in December and spent most of my time in the Clifton area. One fifth of the women are now in niqabs, two fifths wear hijabs, and the remaining ones wear ordinary shalwar Kameez.
Can someone tell me please where one is supposed to find girls like these on the streets of Pakistan?

@Seedoo:
Fashion shows. Also fashion show is about art and creativity, exporting clothing line and may not be necessarily for local consumption. Most if these clothes are also very expensive for ordinary pakistani.

@vin:
Fully agree. My point was to not criticize the show but to bring to the readers' attention the divide and dichotomy that exists between 99.9% of the public and the 0.1% of the elite, not just in terms of money but the value system and the whole outlook on life. Most of Pakistanis would consider showing 1/10th as much skin as these girls are showing a major sin. On the other hand these girls and the people who are watching them are enjoying western influence.
Just an observation, not a judgment

Please climb out of your well and stop making ignorant statements about things you dont understand and places you have never been to. Pakistan along with Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia is the only mulim country still stuck in the dark ages. Do a search on fashion shows in Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Maldives, Brunei, Iraq, Kuwait etc. and you will see how modern these muslim countries are. Women in these countries wear skirts and western dresses and participate more equally in society. Non muslim Asia is even more advanced in its thinking. Supression of women in Pakistan has nothing to do with Islam, it is driven by a bunch of illetrates who use religion as a weapon to suppress others and we are too scared to challenge the blackmail.

Wow, fashion shows takes a nation out of dark ages???. What a vision. Just see the developed country's success and think again that such shows are their success or their hard work and commitment to the nation to develop the country by economy is their success.

The images of the show are quite 'amaturesque' (not sure if that is a word). However, these pictures seem be taken by a pretty basic phone camera by some attendee.
Dawn should have sent a professional photographer to cover the event. After all it is supposed to be a visual event rather than one that can be covered by narrative. Didn't do justice to any of the creativity on display.

Typical desi mentality. Just because you don't like something does not mean that it should be banned. There are others in the world besides you and there are other value system besides yours. They have a right to live and express themselves, just like you do.

People try to distinguish themselves if not with true wealth then a fake one by showing off what they wear, fake alien accent and even meaningless alien words. But separation from others is inherently painful to the soul.
Clothes are worn for your comfort and to change ones mind and that of others. A soldier gets pumped up with valor if he has his uniform. Clothes also raise others level of consciousness. A swami or yogi in saffron un-stitched dhoti or a faqir in lungi raises consciousness of others.
Romans, Turks and Arabs in their slave bazars of Baghdad, Istanbul and Rome used to have raised platforms (ramps) where the slave had to walk to show off what he or she possessed so that the slave owners could fetch higher bid in the slave auction. It seems nothing has changed.

These models doesn't reflect the culture of Pakistan and not their choices either. I really don't know, in which world the designers of these fashions lives, who are completely ignorant of Pakistani culture and their preferences. Because of low employment rate ( unfortunately) in Pakistan you can find people on low wadges to do your job. Its not more than that. These are against the respect of women as well.

The only beef I have with this show is how they even find the heart to put out a show while pakistanis are blown into the oblivion. There is too much tragedy encompassing this country and will be for a long while. I guesss, as they say in show bussiness, "Show must go on"!

**NOT IN PAKISTAN!**
These people are suffering from some mass delusion! Ordinary hardworking people die from terrorism and they want to "express" themselves by flaunting half naked women in the name or "art". I really fail to understand why we have to objectify our women by following the west and think it is supposed to be "modern". Why can't we just accept that we are Muslims and regardless of whether other Muslims are doing it or not, why don't WE opt out of it? There is nothing "liberating" about women wearing half naked clothes and yet the "fashion designers" have them convinced that it is somehow "liberating"!!
I guess my final questions to the reader are:
1. Would you want your mother, sister, wife or daughter to wear such attire and pose for the men and women whose only job is to 'watch' them? I would find it a great insult to my personal self to have any of my ladies to go through that ordeal!
2. Why are men fully clothed with their full sleeved shirts with full sleeved jackets, buttoned collars with ties and only the face and hands visible WHILE women have no sleeves, deep neck lines and semi visible legs? How is this equality of sexes?
3. Isn't culture supposed to represent our society and in that how can be "modern"? Does "modern" necessarily mean "western" and display of skin? Our culture is what it is! You do not find women wearing such on the streets! In the west yes, and that is their culture! Why should WE adopt it and call it modernization?
