The post seems to be an overly cryptic veiled satire on the retrogressive mindset of the majority in the 'land of the pure'.
Though the suggested suitable changes on the right hand side of the picture detailing the burqa-clad prig were intended for mild hilarity, I believe this is indeed the direction that this country is heading.

Ummm ... actually wearing Kajal for men is actually a tradition in Islamic teachings. It has however gotten out of fashion, otherwise 20-30 years ago you'd see many children and adult men wear Kajal especially after taking a bath/shower. So don't think the sarcasm is applicable in this case.

The problem actually starts from the school. What we are taught there is not as per the ideology of Pakistan. Also in a society where there will be extremist defaming religion by using it for their personal interests the liberal minds will also go towards extremism on the otherside and vice versa also applies.

I am hoping that this article is a satire. If not, it's an absolute beautiful example of a closed minded brain that is the biggest social problem of urban Pakistan. Mr writer, wearing dots on the forehead is the way of our enemy? I am assuming you are pointing towards our neighbors. However please allow me to enlighten you, it is the tradition of the Hindus and many of whom are proud Pakistanis living within the borders since centuries and centuries.
Do not confuse Pakistani culture with Islam. Pakistan is a land that has been home to Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Kaafirs, Zoarastrians all combined. A home to these people long before the country came onto the map or you and I came in this world. Such thoughts are the biggest enemy to Pakistan. Live and let live.

This sarcastic article was a waste of time and served no purpose at all. I doubt if there's any hidden foreign agenda behind ultra liberal fashion designs produced by some 'Pakistani' designers.
However, truth of the matter is they don't represent Pakistani values and psyche. Such fashion is not adopted by even most 'trendy' young men and women .Why? They cannot roam around in public with such outfits.
Pakistan is not France or Spain where Fashion changes at least twice a year and is adopted by most of population who discard their old outfits. Their fashion changes also represent their social values which are different from other western countries in Europe and North America. Pakistani designers should represent Pakistani values.

What everybody failed to see is that this piece was an experiment in measuring the ability of "comprehension" among the dawn readers. Most didn't get the satire/sarcasm and the ones who did needed the disclaimer at the end. Only one person, i.e me, apparently passed the test

what a loss of money pumped in these fashion shows? More than 95% of the country do not agree with this kind of clothing. Unless you are targeting Christians which is very small percentage of population, shirts with crosses will not sell. Women with men sandals and naked upper or lower parts of the body will look out of place in any gathering in Pakistan and will be laughed upon or frowned upon and that ninja woman fashion seems like movie scene. I am not much worried about these stupid fashion shows as they will have very low to no impact on general population of Pakistan. Even the most liberals don't want to look like jokers in public.

This is interesting.. Its okay to ridicule extremism, but is our society truly that extremist (urban centers)? I hold a solid grudge against the fashion industry, not because I want burqa clad women walking down the ramp, but because the one's who do are dressed like a rag tag opera piece on an east west romance; a messy edit of a haphazard film(not very unlike our lollywood ventures, mind you!). From drama serials depicting 'unholy' (yet very recyclable) trysts to a fashion industry that is as out of tune with the people as is Satriani singing 'I believe', everything is and does seem artificial. As artificial as the taliban standing up for the word of God. We do have a culture mate, and satire's such as these are not helping the cause.

The main dilemma with Pakistan is the two sides of extremes that are prevalent in the media. There is something called moderation. Not the moderation that Musharraf preached but a moderation that truly appeal the masses. The pictures above we're mostly of outfits you would never see your women wearing in public except if you belong to 0.0001% elite who wear such dresses in some underground or private parties in posh areas. Culture in Pakistan is so messed up thanks to Musharaf moderation that one side like their women to wear burkas where as the other side like to wear outfits that reveals their body parts and showing them symbolizes their modernness. Look at Turkey, they learned from their experiences and now going back to their roots whereas we are trying to adopt the Turkey of Atta Turk.

things any country /nation does is according to their own beliefs and cultural system to maintain its originalilty.This should be true for fashion as well but unfortunately our so called fashion is total immitation without originality and without considering the sensitivities of our society and that is why it is flourishing on only selective media --the common public of this country cant even buy let alone wear these fashions in their day to day life.So this fashion is only for 1% elite affluent class ,our villagers ,our poor urban dwellers cant even think of practicing this kind of fashion and infact when they see this on media,there is a hatred developing against the elite class and it is turning into a war between have and have-not and this is what is benefitting the religious extremist which are growing in reaction to the liberal extremist.

Reading the comments below, I feel sad because there are so many misguided souls in our country. these wannabe's who have no sense of pride in them selves in their culture, in their traditions, in their country. one thing these people don't realize is that, the people they want emulate have a very low opinion of them because, it is people like these wannabe's, who have never amounted to any thing on there own. just look at that the English man, and if you really want to learn, and be like them, then learn one thing from them, for over 150 years they ruled in India and yet have you ever heard one of these English man / women ever changed their name to Mohammad or Ahmed or Farzana of Aysha or did they stop wearing pants and shirts and started to wear shalwar kameez or stop wearing skirts and start wearing Sari's, no they kept their traditions, their names, there way of life and changed only when they and what they wanted. they did not copy any one. for God sake you people you all are blessed with so much you don't need to copy any one. be your self be proud of what you are and don't waste your life as a wannabe.

Unfortunately an article like this is misunderstood by many readers as one can see by these comments, author is making fun of our understanding of the events taking place in Pakistan. He is trying to tell us how we find conspiracy in each of these events and blame foriegn hand, espcially West while we fail to face reality. These fashion shows are the sign of progress and should be encourged, it shows innovation and creativity.

I don't understand for a Pakistani woman having a tattoo in the lower part of the back. It has severely negative connotations. We Pakistanis are so impressed by Western cultures and ideals that is almost sickening. These kind of shows are acceptable in western culture since it is a practice that naturally blends in with their culture. Unfortunately or fortunately, IMO not here in Pakistan. The whole show is littered with confused souls with wannabe aspirations.

Someone in the comments said that it is no pakistan's culture to wear such clothes. But culture is not what dictates as to what people like to wear, it is the other way around, what people are wearing in a certain time becomes the culture. If that was not the case, humans will still be roaming around naked, sticking to their original culture of "no clothes".

Satirical though it may be, I attended a fashion show in Karachi a couple of months ago, and felt completely at home with the crowd and models. It should be noted that my home (i.e., where I grew up and lived all my life) was the US.
I don't understand the attraction toward Western fashion...contemporary Pakistani outfits are far more attractive and interesting than skirts and tube tops.

Satire or no satire,but these fashion shows are there to display what a human mind can fashion,from the ugly outrageous creation to the beautiful pleasing one.For sure even here in the west, these attires meant for the fashion stage are rarely worn casually.They are purely meant for the stage,magazines or some pop divas or a few persons who think they are making a statement .No western man or woman in his or her right mind will come out wearing these clothes.So its up to us of what we make of these monkey fashion shows.

This is obviously done by someone who is trying to portray Muslims in a complete negative way.Lets say those captions were done by someone who is really Islamic as all the captions are based on legs,covering head,wearing tattoo and my personal favourite HARAM! how can that person be Islamic when he is criticizing the guys wearing Kajal as something that is wrong, wearing Kajal/surma is sunnah as the Prophet SAW did it himself and encouraged others to do so.
