KARACHI: An explosion took place near a mosque in Delhi colony area of Karachi killing at least four persons,including a woman, and injuring more than 20 others, DawnNews reported.
Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Memon talking to media persons at the blast site confirmed that four persons had died in the explosion.
He also said that three government vehicles were damaged in the attack and that these vehicles were the apparent target of the blast.
The information minister said that there had been an escalation in such incidents after the expiry of ceasefire announced by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Five auto rickshaws, ten vehicles and scores of motor cycles were destroyed as a result of the blast whereas the windows of several nearby buildings were left shattered.
Ten kilograms of explosives were used in today's explosion, sources in the bomb disposal unit told DawnNews.
They added that around the time of the explosion, a bus with employees of the official residence of the Sindh chief minister had left Masjid-i-Yasrab shortly after Friday prayers.
The sources said the attack was most likely aimed at the bus carrying the CM house employees, adding that the bomber who was in a rickshaw exploded before getting to its target.
Moreover, Inspector General Sindh Iqbal Mehmood said the bus with the CM employees could have been the target of the attack.
Security personnel also claimed to have taken two suspects into custody who were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
According to initial reports, the blast took place near the location of a carpet showroom in the area which was situated between two mosques.
Other eyewitness reports said that the explosion occurred when people were leaving the mosques after offering Friday prayers.
The casualties were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
A huge plume of smoke was also visible above the area, following the blast.
Security personnel cordoned off the area as a search operation went underway.
The loud explosion was heard in adjoining areas of Clifton, Gizri and several phases of Defence Housing Authority.
No group or individual claimed responsibility for the incident till the filing of this incident.
The incident comes a day after police officer Shafiq Tanoli and three others were killed in an explosion near Karachi's old wholesale vegetable market.

I fail to understand where the massive budget given to the Law enforcers is going and why they completely and shamelessly fail to curb such incidents, can any one think of such events in the Middle East countries or the West, even in India or Nepal? We have the worst lot.

It appears that Nawaz government is afraid to order a decisive crack down on TTP fearing that his family & business interest will get targeted by TTP. Everyday unnecessary loss of life & property is being resulted from TTP bomb blasts yet the government is hesitant to take military action them. The government should well understand that it is impossible to tame TTP therefore the only option available is to decimate them for good. A neighbouring country is quite peaceful now, they are free from suicide attacks now.

Karachi operation is a failure, at least at intelligence level. This war can only be win by effective human intelligence networking. Sleeper cells of TTP are now active. I believe that seminaries associated with terrorists must also be targeted in the similar manner. We need to fight an inhuman war with an inhuman retaliation.
However, PAF should respond with retaliatory strike in KPK tribal area. Besides, aerial strike it is important to keep eliminating TTP sleeper cells as soon as they are caught.

A very very regretful incident, should not happen in any part of the world and as usual our law enforcing agencies failed miserably in stopping HATE CRIME in the largest city of the country.
The most sorrowful thing is the way the matter has been reported. The videos showing people walking casually at the crime-scene, some in uniforms and some in sleepers also. A law forcing officer talking on a cell phone and above all " NOWHERE IN THE WORLD THE BOMBING SUSPECTS ARE TREATED IN SUCH A FRIENDLY AND CASUAL MANNER " specially the suspect in the pink shirt, looks like he was taking a walk in the park. " The videos look like a poor production presented by an immature Lollywood director".

I second the comment of information minister MR Shargeel Memon that such incident increased after the expiry of ceasefire date. It is obvious that Government could never accept TTP demands which aimed to forming a parallel government of their own and hence they bent upon to destroy Pakistan by killing people including security forces personnel and damaging vehicles/properties. The only course of action left fot the Government and Military to eradicate this evil once for all from the pak,pure soil of Pakistan. A huge cry and voicing are being made on the attack on Hamid Mir. But no body has an account of these killings/wounding of innocent/unconcerned people and also men in khaki. Government should immediately stop the sham negotiation with the TTP and take instant and bold action against them.

It is despicable to see these terrorists orchestrate an attack during the Friday prayers. Attacks like these display their barbaric and ruthless approach against the innocent people. It boggles any sane mind who looks at this from any angle. When will this madness end; killing innocent worshippers as they exit their mosques, their churches and their temples? The terrorists have no religion other than the religion of death and terror. The terrorists are mistaken if they think they can deter the resolve of the people through indiscriminate killings. The common man has rejected the terrorists and their agendas. The terrorists clearly know that their backs are against the wall, not because the public have clearly rejected them, but the security forces have had enough. Desperation is evident, and it is easy to see that they are trying to hit and scare the peace loving citizens. Our heartfelt condolences go to the people who have died in this, yet another, senseless attack. Many countries in the past have had similar situations as far as militancy is concerned, UK law enforcement was incapable of stopping attacks against themselves also a bombing of a hotel where Margaret Thatcher was staying. She survived purely due to good fortune and not the efforts of their intelligence agencies. We all remember what Tamil Tigers did in Sri Lanka. Many more examples can be given.
Peace can only prevail when both sides in the conflict come to the negotiating table and put aside all differences to work for the betterment of the country and its people. Nelson Mandelas greatness lies in forgiving all those who had perpetrated heinous crimes against his people yet they were forgiven and no retribution took place against them.
These attacks are designed to crush the moral of our people and our forces, that can only happen if we believe that there isn't a way out of this. Media sensationalism doesn't help in bolstering the moral either. Its easy to criticise just for the sake of criticism but constructive criticism is what we require not character assassination of our people and our armed forces.

I am expecting Nawaz Sharif to visit the dead and injured in Karachi any time. He will announce a huge reward money to arrest the bombing planner and create a judicial commission to investigate the incident.

It is highly Unfortunate that the police were dragging a boy (in shorts) while holding his camera in one hand. Common sense dictates that the boy is just a spectator !!! NOT a criminal or murderer. If you want to arrest people taking pics then why not arrest the entire population present on the spot taking pictures with their mobile phones !!
The police/agency is really an idiot for making such pointless arrests !!
At one end the bomb puts innocents to sleep forever, BUT on the other it wakes up the police and agencies (albeit for a short time only). these agencies and police are really a financial burden on the govt.
