CHARSADDA: In yet another incident of getting anti-measles vaccine two more children were killed on Sunday in Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, DawnNews reported.
The total number of deaths due to anti-measles vaccine rose to seven from different districts of the province during the ongoing 12-day campaign against measles.
Ministry of National Health Services decided earlier, to hold a nationwide vaccination campaign against measles to mark the World Immunisation Week Campaign during which children less than 10 years old will be vaccinated against measles.
Previously, two children were killed in Charsadda whereas three others were killed in Peshawar due to the reaction of anti-measles vaccine.

this happens when vaccinators are untrained, using same syringe, vaccines are to be used immediately not keep it for long then use it. Un-used vaccines should be in the dustbins, but since we have lazy & un-trained people, we tend to use same to save time....such actions are some of the reasons for death in this campaign.....

The Institute of Medicine in its 1994 report states that the risk of death from vaccines is "extraordinarily low."all the death being reported from one particular area,it may not be due to vaccine,it should be investigated properly.,there may be cause like (SIDS)sudden infant death

There is ample proof that vaccination causes auto-immune diseases, asthma, autism, and other allergies. Vaccinations actually weaken the immune system. No research has been done on vaccination because it is a very lucrative business for pharmaceutical industry in North America. The only research that was done was a doctor Andrew Jeremy Wakefield and he was later ridiculed instead of finding the link between measles vaccination and autism. After his research, no one is allowed to do independently do research in North America on vaccination. All research is only sponsored by Pharmaceutical industries, not even the government can sponsor such research. I will not travel to Pakistan at any cost and I'm sure a lot of other people think the same. This will bring the economy of the country down. Btw, I hope PM Nawaz Shareef also has to take the vaccination on his next trip abroad and it will be big news what happens to him next.

when i was doing residency and as registrar in big hospital in karachi,i used see many many children dying from measles, tetanus neonatorum and T.B menengitis...and after EPI programe i really saw children dying from measles,no case of tetanus in new born and BCG prevented T.B. meningitis..the case of death may be faulty vaccine not meeting the standard or due to some other cause,so we should not blame vaccination programme

@Imran ..Because signs of autism may appear around the same time children receive the MMR vaccine, some parents may worry that the vaccine causes autism. Vaccine safety experts, including experts at CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), agree that MMR vaccine is not responsible for recent increases in the number of children with autism. In 2004, a report by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) concluded that there is no link between autism and MMR vaccine, and that there is no link between autism and vaccines that contain thimerosal as a preservative.

This is highly irresponsible piece of journalism! Knowing full well that the people are averse to vaccination, and vaccines are safe unless scientifically proven otherwise, the onus is upon the journalist to either investigate and report the real cause, or to find proof that this is caused by the vaccines. Otherwise report the truth, that the deaths are caused by medical negligence unrelated to vaccines

The rest of the World uses Measles vaccine without a problem - so what's up with Pakistan. Enough with the ignorant conspiracy theory nonsense so typical with Pakistan. ET article indicates that 40% of he people providing vaccinations are not properly trained - that's fixable. Further - chronic power outages might contribute to inappropriate vaccine storage and someone needs to be in charge of certifying that the vaccines have been properly stored/handled. Time to step up to the plate and joint the 21st century.

@Imran, Unfortunately, every statement you made is completely false. "Ample evidence"? there is not even a scant evidence, only conjectures & half-baked theories. On the other hand, evidence supporting safety & efficacy of vaccines is overwhelming. A study in Denmark reviewed HALF A MILLION children ( 537,000 ) and found ZERO link between vaccination & autism. There is no grand conspiracy to hide the side effects of vaccines. In fact, in 1999, a new vaccine Rotashield, was banned & withdrawn from the market upon discovery of a previously unknown side effect.
As for Mr. Wakefield & his so called study, it has been conclusively proven that he took bribe from the largest medical malpractice law firm in U.K to falsify the data in his study in an attempt to create medical malpractice business for his clients.
Reports of deaths from Measles vaccination in Pakistan are most troubling. There is something criminal going on here, intentionally or unintentionally. Millions upon millions have been vaccinated against Measles in USA without a single death!

Why doesn't this article mention the statements of KP's doctors including DG Health that per their investigations, there was no link between measles and those deaths? Note that scores of infants die in our poor country every single day! And people are so cynical about vaccinations in our country now, that any infants who die soon after having received the vaccine would probably be considered to have died from it. All the others would continue to be attributed to kala jadoo (black magic), nazar (jealousy), etc.

So much for "Sehat ka Insaf". Had it been not for an ill planned and poorly executed vaccination campaign, these children would have been alive and those suffering would not have suffered. Anyways 'who' is worried about a handful of children getting sick or dying. We have greater problems at hand like stopping Nato supply, Dharnas and staging rallies against election rigging etc to deal with. Welcome to Naya Pakistan.

What made you think that it was from Bharat.
Whoever was the manufacturer must be brought to book. Why not report the name and details of the company making the vaccine and also establish if it was the fault of the manufacturer or if there was something wrong in the system & the procedure of the vaccinators

@Citizen Many more children would die or be disabled in an epidemic of measles. Not a great comfort however for the parents of the children who died. The same goes for polio vaccination. No medical procedure is without risk. It is for society as a whole to decide what is for the common good and what is an acceptable risk to endure for the good that is done.

@Imran There has actually been a good deal of research after the example you listed supporting Dr. Wakefield's theory, but it is never widely publicized even though the studies are published in a number of medical journals. There is also ample evidence of the neurotoxicity of a number of ingredients present in vaccines, especially detrimental to infants because of their size and still developing systems.

@Mansoor Naqvi Just so you know, the American court system ruled back in the 80s that vaccines were "Unavoidably Unsafe" and then exempted the vaccine manufacturers and physicians from liability due to vaccine related adverse reactions and death. Now there is a tax on all vaccines which goes into a fund to pay out to those injured people who go to the Vaccine Injury Court, which has paid out several billion dollars over the years. Including cases involving autism.

After years of research, no correlation between vaccines and autism has been found. Please do us all a favor and get your information from latest reputable sources rather than spew out what you discussed with your buddies over a cup of tea last evening. Most medical journals are not funded by big pharma.
