QUETTA: Armed militants torched a tanker carrying fuel for Nato troops in Balochistan's Jaffarabad district on Sunday, police said.

Noor Muhammad Bareech, a police officer, told Dawn.com that armed militants opened fire at a Nato tanker near Dera Allahyar. "The tanker caught fire after firing," he said.

However, the driver and cleaner managed to escape unhurt from the spot. Bareech stated that two militants on a motorcycle attacked the tanker.

He said the assailants also sped away on the motorcycle after the strike.

The fire brigade was called to put off the roaring flames of fire.

Police also reached the spot and investigation into the incident went underway. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Militants have been targeting Nato supplies in Balochistan for more than seven years. Most of the Nato supplies were attacked in Bolan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Naseerabad, Quetta, Killa Abdullah and other areas of the militancy-hit province which is also rife with a separatist insurgency and sectarian violence.
