Thomas Mueller scored a hat-trick as Germany thrashed Portugal by 4-0 , America had a close one beating Ghana with 2-1. Meanwhile Iran and Nigeria shared the first draw in the competition.

In the first march of the day Germany maintained its record for scoring at least 4 goals in every opening World Cup match against which Ronaldo’s “100 per cent“ fitness seemed to fall short.

Later Iran and Nigeria struggled hard against each other but both the teams failed to score any goal and the match ended up in a stalemate.

John Brook broke the tie and and brought USA the victory in the last match of the day.
