KARACHI: A 27-year-old man was shot dead in Malir City in the early hours of Wednesday in a ‘sectarian attack’, police said.

They added that Habibullah was riding a motorcycle when armed motorcyclists fired at him near ‘Bakra Piri’ and fled.

He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The victim was an Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) activist and it appeared to be an act of ‘targeted killing’, Malir City SHO Imtiaz Niazi said. An ASWJ spokesperson said that the victim was a labourer by profession and member of their party. Funeral prayers for him were led by ASWJ leader Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi in Bakra Piri.
