QUETTA: At least eight people, including two police officials, were injured on Thursday when an explosion occurred in Balochistan’s Chaman area.

According to a police official, Mir Ahmed, an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a bicycle parked outside the residence of a government official near Chaman jail.

The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide. The injured include six passersby as well.

In the recent past, militants have carried out low-intensity bombings in Chaman, targeting police stations and other national installations.

Chaman is considered a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan's volatile Kandahar province.
