"There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread," Mahatma Gandhi once said. According to the 2014’s report on the State of Food Insecurity in the World, which was issued on the eve of World Food Day on Thursday, 63 countries have reached international hunger-reduction targets before 2015, which is “proof of the progress possible when governments, humanitarian organisations and the private sector come together to make lasting change.” The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations warned earlier this year that the number of starving people in the world is as high as 805 million, or one in nine, despite the overall figure falling by more than 100 million in the past decade.

Instead of Weapon-Race, India should focus on Basic Human Rights.

Hunger has only made India it's home, Right?? Pakistan has none, Correct?? Please give fair justification. we understand we have to fight poverty, we acknowledge our challenge, one has to realise the demographics, volumes and magnanimity of the problem. Another thing we can't compromise and risk national security and integrity of our nation. First comes our security

@JackDomm Thanks for suggestion. We already are. Like the Photo on the page mid-day meals are provided free to school going kids (incentive for kids to go to school) and cheap meals for adults. The food security bill when implemented by all states will help control the hunger. Last year we climbed 8 spots towards betterment in tackling hunger and have long way to go... Security and Food both are important

Hunger is not the result of less farm productivity, rather the big western banks, which create shortages through hoarding leading to higher prices for the poors and big profits for the bank.
Although they have shown India, but India is the only country in the world
which has effectively spoke and stood
for the poor at every international
forums.

@JackDomm And meanwhile America and NATO should try instigating 3rd world countries infighting. I have not seen a single instance of resolving problems of so called 3rd world countries. India has primary national security issues - no developed county will help - it has to solve itself and. The days are dawning!!!

Its heartbreaking that with such hunger and suffering in the World, our leaders spend millions on their palatial homes and foreign tours! Where there is hunger there is bound to be unrest and where there is unrest the crime graph is sure to go up! Whether it is Pakistan or any other Third World country, if focus of the government is laid on the lot of the poor, the country will definitely move towards a better future!

Look! Hunger can only be eradicated where people who rules the world can think over it in sincere way. Otherwise it can not be resolved till these rulers eradicated.

@Reddy - In Global Hunger Index, India ranks 55, the score is better than Pakistan (rank 57) and Bangladesh (57) but it still trails behind Nepal (44) and Sri Lanka (39). India was at 63rd position on GHI last year. So, not much to write home about!

Millions of people are poor in India because thee are tens of thousands of rich people and there are hundreds of very rich people. A relatively equal distribution of wealth will vanish the poverty from India. But in a western styled capitalist economy this is nest to impossible. Same situation in Pakistan.
