War film 'Yalghaar' enters final production phase

Highly anticipated film Yalghaar starring Shaan Shahid and Adnan Siddiqui is headed to its final phase of production, with more than half of the film's shooting reportedly complete.

Written, directed, and produced by Dr Hassan Rana – who produced blockbuster Waar – the film is set to be the most expensive movie in the history of Pakistani cinema with an estimated budget of Rs 50 crore, a press release stated.

Based on a true story of a successful military operation conducted in Swat district, Yalghaar follows the lives of the officers and soldiers involved in the battle against terrorists.
The lead role of a Colonel in the Pakistan Army is being played by Shaan Shahid.

Humayun Saeed, Gohar Rasheed, Sana Bucha, Adnan Siddiqui, Ayub Khoso, Bilal Ashraf, Ayesha Omer, Sikander Rizvi, Umair Jaswal, and Armeena Khan also feature in the war movie.

Talking to Dawn.com, Shaan Shahid's publicist, Syed Noman Nazir revealed details about the film:
"Shaan will be playing the protagonist with Sana Bucha acting beside him. There is a whole team of SSG commandos and Shaan, Uzair Jaswal, Ayub Khoso are all part of the team. Humayun Saeed will be seen in a negative role."

He further added that, "Half of the film has been shot in Karachi and Tarbela. The two legs of the movie left to shoot will be shot in Swat and Islamabad; the climax of the operation will be shot in Swat."
The movie's is expected to be released sometime in 2015. The first trailer of the film is expected to released January 2-15.

@M.Ali Thanks I appreciate for calling me a friend, so far only Pakistani film "Bol" was released in India. I watched, and it was fantastic movie. I tried to watch film "Waar" on Youtube, the quality is blurred (pirated).

Wars destroy lives of all caught in the violence. There is no glory in killing and getting killed no matter what the cause. Peace, cooperation, sympathy and friendship based on human empathy are what make life worth living. Let us stop glorifying any and all forms of violence in popular culture. This includes India as well as Pakistan.

I hope the script is in Urdu, and not English. I recently watched Waar. Although I commend Shaan and others involved for trying something different, I was deeply disappointed in the script which was 90% English with a fake American accent. More than 90% of Pakistanis cannot speak English. What is the point of producing a movie in a language most Pakistanis (except for the elite) who cannot understand it, unless it is meant for an outside audience?
We need to come out of this slave mentality. Either we need to make English our mother tongue or take pride in Urdu and transform Urdu into a modern language that is suitable for science and economics, and not just relegated to the world of poetry.

@Peace and Ravi, you guys are talking as if there has been zero Indian movies showing Pakistan and its army in negative light. That's not to say it's OK to do it but I want to know if you oppose such Indian movies as well.
Those who are saying this movie glorifies war are also incorrect. Sounds like this movie is based on a real story of an operation in Swat against Taliban. An operation that India and US keep asking for more of (and Pakistan needs more of).

Firstly, it's Peochar (not Parachinar). The Peochar assault is something that the ISPR has been wanting to convert into a film for years now --- it was an audacious heliborne assault by SSG units directly onto strategic points in the Peochar Valley (and surrounding mountains). We lost many brave men, but captured the objective. I'm sure it'll be an action-packed film, but it is pretty much an ISPR production helmed by the Waar producer/writer --- which means questionable creative talent and lots of cheesy dialogue!

@Hussain Sure, But do we recognise that the Taliban are a product of the Cold 'war' which was a product of the two world 'wars' which in turn was a product of the 'Great Game'. That just goes on to prove the futility of 'wars'. Also, does this movies highlight the fact that the terrorist operations have left millions homeless in their own country? And that the soldiers who lost their lives left behind grieving families. That is not to say that the operation was not needed. But to say that it should not be turned over in to a glossy holly wood action flick while brushing aside all the ugliness that comes with armed conflicts.

@Delta I used to watch Indian films till a decade ago and talking about "cheesy" , the films in the last decade have been exactly that. Don't get the impression that I watch Indian movies , even coming across a poster is a pain . The vulgarity , the nakedness , the obscenity...wow !!! And then we have the crude anti Pakistan propaganda . Indians need to brush up their propaganda skills , they are a laughing stock in Pakistan when it comes to their anti Pakistani tirades.

We have lost over 40,000 lives on the War on terror and who is ever going to forget what happend yesterday in Peshawar.
We more then anyone else need films like Yaalghar. It's a much awaited film with a great cast. Yaalghar has been produced on a much bigger scale then Waar.
Can't wait for it.
