KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack on Shahrah-i-Noorjehan on Wednesday morning, the police and party officials said.
They added that 27-year-old Abdul Latif was on his way to his general store located in the Pahar Ganj area from his residence when armed motorcyclists attacked him. He and a 40-year-old passer-by, Haider Ali, sustained bullet wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the former was pronounced dead on arrival. The passer-by sustained bullet wounds in the leg and his condition was stated to be out of danger.
“The incident appears to be linked with targeted killing,” said Gulberg SP Chaudhry Asad Ali.
However, a spokesperson for the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat said the deceased shopkeeper was a party member.
