Shikarpur tragedy: Protests in different parts of Karachi

KARACHI: Several protests were staged in different parts of Karachi on Saturday over yesterday's blast inside a central imambargah in Sindh province's Shikarpur that left at least 60 people dead.
On the call of Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM), a large number of men, women and children staged a sit-in at the Numaish traffic intersection. Protesters said that terrorists are roaming freely and the government has failed to protect citizens' lives.
Protesters also staged sit-ins on Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, Five Start Chowrangi in North Nazimabad, Malir 15 on the National Highway and near Incholi on Shahrah-i-Pakistan.
The MWM, Shia Ulema Council and Jaffria Alliance had given the call for a ‘peaceful strike’ across the province against the second bomb attack on an Imambargah in recent times.
The Sindh government, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and traders’ alliance expressed ‘solidarity’ with the victim families, while the strike call attracted support of the Sunni Ittehad Coucil, Sunni Alliance, Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek.
The Sindh government also announced a day of mourning in solidarity with the families of the victims and said the national flag would fly at half mast today. Compensation was also announced for the victims' families.
At least 60 people were killed and 60 others injured in an explosion inside a central imambargah in Sindh province's Shikarpur district on Friday. The cause of the blast has not been ascertained, but suspicions are that it may have been the result of a suicide attack.
Agencies reported that Jundullah, a splinter group of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which last year pledged support for the Islamic State group based in Syria and Iraq, had claimed responsibility.

@Ka Why others have not joined in the protests is beyond comprehension. All parties, always, claim their presence in the city and all.. repeat all boast of being against terrorism...but their absence from protests shows how sincere they are !! Does not this attitude suggest their claims are nothing but hollow ? There is still time for them to come and join....but they may do so only if they are serious in their claims.

Agencies reported that Jundullah is responsible for this terrorist act. So the agencies are aware of them. Then who will issue order for their arrest. I believe as I believe in God that agencies know their whereabouts.

There should be peaceful protest for every killing in the country. We strongly condemn the killing of innocents. Our intelligence agencies are not performing up to the standard as they are unable to catch those killing shias and sunnis every day to further destabilize the country.

Ever since the birth of Pakistan, the country has seen violent episodes. There is lack of unity. People belonging to different schools of thought have ambivalent feelings about each other. Charlie Hebdo was attacked and the entire leadership of France and almost whole outside world including its neighbouring countries expressed solidarity with the families of those killed and staged a rally involving millions of people. This is called unity. The other name of Muslim is unification. Muslim is a name of safety and security for other whether muslims or non-muslims. The day muslims understood this reality, they will be united for not only their interests and security but for the whole of humanity.

Very said. All poor people can do is to protest. No official resigned. CM sindh, governor, any minister, any MP politicians no one took the blame for any poor performance or resigned. Politicians enjoying good salary and perks all paid by poor tax payers. Some of the politicians are in politics for decades, but all they do is to give speeches, speeches, speeches, and more speeches, they are full of it. General public is helpless, no way out but to listen this...... all the time.

A total 20000 odd civilians obviously 99% were Muslims have been killed by other Muslims in Pakistan from 2003 to till date! Those people were killed either by bomb blasts or by bullets! Most unsafe place for Muslims those who want to live in peace!

Sorry Sir, what do you understand from, "The strike attracted support of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sunni Alliance, Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid, and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek"? Solidarity was also expressed by others. Day of mourning has been announced.
My only request to you is to please do not use such a language that airs sectarianism. We need your support to get rid of this menace of sectarianism.

@Ka It is a loss for all Muslims whether Shia or Sunni. The use of the same gun in killing both Shia and Sunni clerics in Karachi proves that these killers are not sincere to any sect. They are just terrorists and they don’t belong to any religion.

@Riaz I mean the angst is not convincing. Just see how MQM went for shut down as one of their own was killed and dumped? Why not try do something to protest strongly against 60 members of their citizens. If they think one of their own is killed they will not just offer support for Shias to protest. Need absolute intolerance to such things. We may probably think for same but I see this disappointing

Now is the time to retrospection. 61 killed in Pakistan. 30 killed in Egypt. One person was beheaded in public by ISIS. In Libya 10 people die due to suicide bombing. The common thread here is the underlying ideology.

@Ka I agree. I would expect and hope that more of us Sunnis, especially our clerics, show up hand-in-hand with our Shia brothers in protest together at the same place and at the same time. These sectarian terrorists need to understand we are in this fight together against them.
