QUETTA: As part of an ongoing crackdown against militants from banned organisations in Balochistan, police and Anti-Terrorist Force (ATC) personnel have arrested 260 suspects from different parts of Quetta.

Police sources told Dawn.com that raids were conducted in Sariab Road, Brewery Road, Satellite Town and other parts of Quetta in the early hours of Saturday.

Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the suspects who have been shifted to different police stations in Quetta for interrogation.

"Most of the suspects are Afghan nationals," police stated.

"We will set free the suspects that are innocent," a senior police officer who requested anonymity told Dawn.com

Meanwhile, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) staged a protest demonstration outside Sariab Police Station against late night raids in the area.

BNP-M accused the police and ATF of violating the sanctity of veil while conducting raids at the houses of what they claimed were innocent people.

"We will continue our protest till the release of innocent Baloch," Agha Khalid Shah, a BNP-M worker told Dawn.com

Security forces in Balochistan have intensified their operations in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Peshawar.
