Orange Line Metro Train okayed

LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) Punjab approved four development schemes worth Rs174.172 billion of various sectors. The approved schemes include the over Rs162 billion Metro Rail Transit System on the Orange Line here, according to a spokesman.

The schemes were approved in a meeting of the PDWP, presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi. Provincial Secretary (Planning and Development) Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, members of the board and others concerned also attended the meeting.

The schemes also include Disaster and Climate Resilience Improvement Project worth Rs10.24bn, Rs332 million for optimising Canal and Groundwater Management to Assist Water User Associations in Maximising Crop Production and Managing Salinisation with Australian Assistance (revised) and a Rs971.6m project related to purchase of mobile health units.

This rapid transit system is much more practical, cost effective and serves better towards general commuting and adds to civic sense as well. I fully support Govt. to construct such systems in all major cities of Pakistan esp. in Karachi.

@Love_Pakistani don't blame the karachite. if you want to blame for the mess in karachi blame the government in rule MQM & PPP. you want to remain in a state of denial continue too but its a fact karachi suffers because of them karachi was supposed to become Singapore or dubai but due to all the ethnic mindset we have here in Pakistan it has just become a dump city which still generates about 65% TAX REVENUE had karachi been allowed to develop and flourish it would have been a much bigger and better city for Pakistan and the world but unfortunately our ethnic mindset continues to deprive a city which is the bread and butter of this country and NO i am not saying lahore should not get a metro line or any other nice projects.

@Fahd Because king Nawaz is in power to waste poor Pakistan's wealth. That's how PML make money indirectly compared to PPP who make money directly and gets away with it too. What a country ? The rest you can figure it out.

Billions will be embezzled again. PML(N) loves these mega project since it is so easy to move around few millions or billion rupees without a clue. I am wondering why Pakistan is lagging so behind in education and health and basic needs of masses, why govt has no interest in the basic need of 2/3 of the population?

@T. M. Wazir he is not wasting the country's wealth, rather he is keeping us all mortgage against all the debt he is accumulating. He will borrow billions and billions of dollars at high interest rate and he will dupe the nation in to believing that he is a great leader by building these expansive projects and will "win" the next election by a landslide and the cycle will be repeated until the damage is beyond repair

Pakistan has some seriously good looking metros. That one looks like a bullet train! Indian passenger trains are dull because fare is subsidized .

@Fahd The rest of country, specially Sind should question their politicians. Karachi circular railway project is all complete for implementation for more than 11 years. previous PPP federal Govt did not move a stone on this project, neither did Musharraf, who for every reason is a champion for urban Sind. This project in Lahore is being managed by Punjab Provincial govt, does anyone know what Sind Govt doing? except for protocol duty to royal family and their cronies!!!

@salman and what to do with Rapid Bus service? abandon it? the why invested millions of Rs. in a project which never going to be lasted long. If Shahbaz Sharif's govt. wanted to have a metro lines operating then why had he abandoned the same metro project initiated by Chowdary brothers during their rule? After they have also invested millions in planning.

A much better project than the BRTS(Metro Bus). This is an initiative of Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab government and it will be financed by a Chinese consortium, no government money involved here. Though I don't like the one man gang style of government by S.Sharif, I have started believing his hard work, he even works on Sundays, holidays, and is a good administrator. Wish we had a dynamic and young government in Sindh as well, it has as much potential to turn around with ports and sea links. But...the partnership of convenience by the two political parties could not make it happen. How sad and pathetic.

Everything happening in Punjab . Very Good! But what about other provinces. PML N is atleast winning voters with development work in Punjab but PPP is just using Sindhi card to hold Sindhi voters.
