Senate body adopts resolution against Indian defence minister statement

ISLAMABAD: Taking strong exception to the statement made by Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar about sponsoring terrorism to counter terrorism, the Senate's Standing Committee on Defence Tuesday adopted a condemnation resolution.
The committee said the statement is an "open confession" of the Indian government pursuing the policy of state terrorism.

Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence Mushahid Hussain Syed presided over the meeting of the committee at Parliament House in the federal capital.
The meeting also called upon the government to take up the matter with the UN security council and the international community.
The resolution said the statement has serious implications for India's neighbours, and endangers peace and stability in South Asia.
Earlier, Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, in a shocking and radical statement, asserted that terrorists have to be neutralised only through terrorists.
“India will take proactive steps to prevent a 26/11 type attack,” Press Trust of India had quoted him saying.

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, the minister used the Hindi phrase “kante se kanta nikalna” (removing a thorn with a thorn) and wondered why Indian soldiers should be used to neutralise terrorists. The proactive steps, he said, could include pressure tactics.
“We have to neutralise terrorists through terrorists only. Why can't we do it? We should do it. Why does my soldier have to do it?” he said and added that the issue could not be discussed beyond this.
“There are certain things that I obviously cannot discuss here. But if there is any country, planning something against my country, we will definitely take some pro-active steps,” he said.

There are thousands of resolutions that can be passed that would be more sensible and relate to the improvement of life of Pakistani's, but our leaders live in their own myopic world. Why not pass a resolution against attack on the Supreme Court by the man shown on the right in the photograph and many of his cronies for example.

The statement from Mr. Parrikar has been quoted out of context & has been shared in a misleading way. He really didn't mean that we shall be developing terrorism in our neighborhood. India has been a peace loving country all along and has never ever done anything wrong in other nations. We are advocates of peace & stability in the region and the statement from our defence minister is in that direction only. It is not directed against any country but rather against our common menace of terrorism.

India's confession regarding the use of terrorism to counter militancy should be an eye opener for those who see it as a peaceful democratic nation. India has been supressing Kashmiri people along with other minorities for decades. They have been denying Kashmiris the right of plebiscite to decide their status despite a UN resolution demanding a vote. It is time that the international community stop looking the other way and demand that India fulfil its obligations towards its oppressed minorities rather than slaughtering them through terrorist actions.

Manohar Parikkar said that he did not want soldiers to be put in harm's way, and many terrorists were drawn in for money -mercenaries- and India should pay whoever is willing to finish them off....what is wrong with that?

Just plane silly. Is it a surprise that India spys on Pakistan and Pakistan does the same? Is it a surprise that both countries indulge in activities to destabalise the other, yes of course covertly ?
This minister is not quite up to his job otherwise he would know the difference between a goon and a diplomate. Given some experience he will learn the ropes of being a minister and using language that ministers use rather than the street fighters in his local patach.
Our chap jumping up and down had previous difficulties wih decorum , democracy and demeanour befitting a sober statesman.
Anyone claiming to be a democrat and accepting a dictator and working for the dictator must have some explaining to do! Let us see what new trick he pulls out of the hat ?

Why is Pakistan taking is personally?. He did not say that he'll sponsor terrorism in Pakistan, just that he'll use terrorism against the countries that spread terrorism in india. Does it mean Pakistan accepting that it is responsible for terrorism in India?

Parrikar did not even mention Pakistan, but some nations have always expected to get the same treatment that they meted out. So any wonder why leaders are making a mountain out of a molehill to be the object of international derision.
They have to remember that the stakes changed for India once China's economy took off in the nineties and India took the corrective steps needed for herself. Your agencies need to somehow need to take the remedial steps because it will not be business as usual with India - if you do not agree, google for "dailymail massive retaliation India" and click first link to read what west has to say about this nowadays.

Indian Defence Minister has talked about 'responding' to terrorism. He has not mentioned Pakistan or any other country. If Pakistan's hands are clean, what is there to get alarmed about?
Isn't this reaction by the committee an admission that Pakistan uses terrorism as a tool in the first place? And they are going to admit it all the way to the United Nations?

Do you know that Manmohan Singh (Former PM) said on May 24, 2010 and as reported in Indian media at the time .... “I have been saying for the last three years that Naxalism remains the biggest internal security challenge facing our country,”.
Will the present defence minister first "neutralise" the internal security threats to India then show bravado to it's neighbours with strong language.

It has been more than 6 years since the 26/11 attack. If Pakistan was serious to indict the masterminds of this attack, it should have done it by now. Has anything happened? You still want India to keep quiet and wait? Don't expect such leniency from new govt. which you received from previous govt.s. Better get your house in order first and show some seriousness.

The statement at its face value seems to be precautionary and hardly
any chance of materialsation.India has to maintain its solid aim of
peaceful coexistence and its prestige known so well.It has kept peace
with neighbors despite provocations and peace with Pakistan is all
the more important,as there are numerous inbuilt relationships.In
case of instability or turmoil in Pakistan,even India can not remain
