LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) said on Monday that a diplomatic enclave would be developed at its newly-launched residential project -- LDA City -- where consulates, resident missions and offices of various countries would be established.

“Apart from a central business centre the LDA City will have 47,700 residential plots. We will allocate a separate and secure piece of land for the development of a diplomatic enclave where we desire that various countries should establish their consulates general, resident missions and offices,” LDA’s Additional Director General (Housing) Ammara Khan told this to a group of 48 probation officers of the Pakistan Administrative Services who paid a study tour to the authority as part of the 38th specialized training programme.

Briefing about the LDA’s scope of work, especially in the housing sector, Ms Khan said that 11 per cent of over 60,000-kanal residential project was consisted of parks and greenbelts.

She said the scheme would be fully computerized and there would be a transparent balloting of plots.

She said the LDA was spending over Rs320 million on the computerization of other schemes, including Johar Town. “LDA City’s designing and planning task has been given to a renowned firm that has already been engaged by the Sindh government for master planning and designing of the port city -- Karachi,” she added.

ARRESTED: A CDGL team comprising officials of the Livestock Department and Gulberg Town on Monday conducted a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse at Abdul Sattar Park near Peeco Road and seized a huge quantity of unhygienic meat.

A spokesman for the CDGL said the team sealed the premises and got arrested two persons involved in unlawful slaughtering of animals.

A monitoring team also got arrested 13 people, including contractors and workers, for selling under-weight bread at canteens of Jinnah and Farooq hospitals. Those arrested were sent to jail for three days.

Another CDGL team detected dengue larvae at the compound of the Punjab University and got an FIR lodged against some officials under dengue regulations. Various price control magistrates also got arrested 64 shopkeepers and imposed a fine of Rs92,800 on several others for overcharging.
