PESHAWAR: A US drone strike on a compound in North Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday night left five suspected militants dead, sources said.

The drone, according to sources, fired two missiles on a compound in Karwanda village in Dattakhel, 40km to the west of regional headquarters of Miramshah, at 11pm.

The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The nationality of militants was not immediately known but the sources said they were foreign nationals.

The military is in the final phase of Zarb-i-Azb operation after moving ground forces in the remote and densely forested Shawal Valley.

Dattakhel, the village hit by drone is near the Afghan border.
