The police constable, Ali Badshah, was deployed at Imambargha in Mohallah Sayyedan of Lakki city. Injured critically, he was shifted to government city hospital in Lakki, wherefrom he was taken to a hospital in Bannu, but he could not survive, said an official. The Imambargha is located in the congested urban locality mostly populated by Shia community, he added.

The official said the attackers escaped, adding heavy contingent of police reached the area and launched a search operation but no arrests were made immediately.

Meanwhile, three unidentified people opened indiscriminate fire on a police patrol at Charbagh area of Swat late Sunday evening, leaving two policemen, including driver of the vehicle, severely injured. The wounded policemen were identified as Sohail Khan and Asmatullah who were shifted to Saidu Teaching Hospital.

The assailants managed to flee the scene while the law enforcement agencies imposed a curfew, and arrested at least 50 suspected people.

The curfew remained intact on Monday and no one was allowed to come out of their houses due to which all schools, offices and bazaars remained closed in Charbagh.
