SWAT: Sardar Soran Singh, special assistant to chief minister KP on minorities’ affairs and an MPA, was gunned down in a targeted attack near Pir Baba in Buner district on Friday.
“Gunmen riding on two motorbikes came in front of the car and started indiscriminate firing which killed the minister on the spot,” Khalid Hamadani, district police chief told AFP.
He was shifted to the hospital immediately after the incident, where he succumbed to his wounds.
"Soran Singh was shot in the head and eye," Pir Baba SHO Mir Ghazab confirmed.
Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
Soran Singh belonged to the Sikh community and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2011 after being associated with Jamaat-i-Islami. He held one of several seats reserved for religious minorities in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly.
Three years ago, another PTI provincial lawmaker Fareed Khan was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Hangu.

Just when it starts to feel good for an all -inclusive Pakistan, the worst happens. It was hearty to see Sardar Suran Singh, a PTI stalwart speaking on behalf of his party and was part of the mainstream leadership. But the disease is deep rooted and not going to be extracted out easily. 'All-inclusive' Pakistan, would remain an elusive dream for a long time to come.
RIP Sardar Suran Singh, at least you tried to become an 'equal' Pakistani. Your death is a sad moment for all of us.

I am deeply saddened to see him die he was the first Sikh I saw in mainstream politics who talked a lot of sense who was also doing a lot for his fellow Sikhs ie. they got a proper place of worship in peshawar. May his soul rest in peace, i hope someone like him carries on his legacy. I also hope to see more Sikhs, Hindus, Christians step up and actively take part in politics to send a message to this low lives that we aren't scared of such barbarians. We need to stand up for the vulnerable as a community

Unfortunately people are right when they say that minorities are not safe in Pakistan. But to be fair, a lot more Muslims have died in the last 10 years in terrorist attacks.
Either way, I am heart broken to read this news. Irrespective of his caste or creed, he was a Pakistani and we should not be selective about who we show our grief for.
As a Pakistani, I am extremely ashamed of what is happening in our country. My head bows in shame. I apologize to the Pakistani Sikh community for this horrible act.
We should do our utmost to crush TTP and all related militant groups once and for all.

I simply can't guess why Dr. Soran Singh was assassinated ? Was it because he was a Sikh or is it simply a political murder having no relationship with his religion ? Whatsoever be the reason, it is a condemn-able and cowardly act. Dr. Soran Singh was a true Pakistani and a mainstream politician. Such persons ought to be extolled and protected. They represent pluralistic and multi-cultural face of Pakistani society. I urge the family of Dr. Soran Singh to fight the feeling of insecurity, if one haunts it, after this gruesome murder and must never leave this country and keep contributing for its well being and prosperity.
