LOS ANGELES: Canelo Alvarez defended his World Boxing Council middleweight belt Saturday by knocking out Amir Khan with a vicious right hand late in the sixth round of their Las Vegas title fight.
The 25-year-old hard-hitting Mexican dropped Khan with a straight right over a passive left jab that sent the Briton crumpling to the canvas with just 23 seconds left in the round.

Like they say only Knights in Armor fall in battle. It was a good match and congrats to both boxers. Canelo no doubt was better boxer.

Hitting someone on the head constantly is very dangerous. Boxing cannot be called 'sport'.

Never mind Amir Khan! It is only defeat that will shape you to the victory. Take it as detour of your career. You have done your best anyway!
Well done.

Khan is great inspiration for young Muslim Brits. Canelo was favourite in this fight. Canelo beating khan is not a big news but khan beating Canelo would be a history. Alas nothing happened. Khan should learn that high aspirations must be back with high efforts.

It was slated as a no contest in Vegas because in the later round the odds of Canelo knocking Amir was huge. That's exactly what happened and Canelo planned for that. Only after the 5th round did Canelo got really aggressive cause the time had come. Good smart strategic fight by Canelo.

@Annu How would that be any different. You don't have the crowd in the ring with you, do you? You have to fight by yourself in the end. A true fighter fights whereever he has to.

Amir has poor style. In order to get his speed he leaves himself open to be hit thus the knockout . I feel really bad for him as his boxing skills were taking him ahead on the judges cards.

@Annu You recon that the punch that knocked Amir out would have landed far more softly in London?

Saw the fight. The KO was devastating. When the KO happened, i thought that Khan would be hurt seriously. Fortunately, nothing like that happened.

I'm an Indian and was pulling for Amir! Too bad he lost. I feel his career is pretty much over at this point. Too many younger boxers out there and Amir just can't compete at that level.

This is what happens to sports persons who loose focus. Liyari didn't need boxers they need education. But then again Ali lost and won, lost and won.

As a Canadian Christian.....I disagree with fighting sport or non sport. But they both tried their best....In Pakistan the money is simply not there to train with real competitors, and right kinds of tools supports... Never the less a good showing..... If you call being punched in the head a showing.

He is brave heart but has naturally weak physique and can not survive hard hitting. He was already struggling and his knock out defeat was the writing on the wall.

Lad, you went up in weight and lost. No shame in that. Most boxers are too concerned about stepping out of their class and boxing up a weight. Amir took that chance and showed that he has got heart when most boxers would pass going up in weight.
Still all class and gutsy!

Khan really have to rethink and get a self assurance that he still can come out of this totally outclassed defeat, opponent was way too tough. If he fails to get enough self assurance then advise would be to see off this career.
