The film is based on one of the most downloaded game of all time — the Angry Birds games have been downloaded over three billion times! The original Angry Birds game was released in December 2009 and was pretty much an immediate hit — with around 12 million copies being downloaded in the first nine months alone.
Red
Red is the angriest bird on Bird Island. He lives on the edge of town and ends up in anger management classes in the film. He is the hero here.
Terrence
The largest red bird on Bird Island is Terrence. Giant but gentle, Terrence is like a super-sized version of Red, used for maximum damage in the game and known for his deep growls and groans in the movie.
The Mighty Eagle
According to legends of the birds’ world, The Mighty Eagle is the most powerful and wisest of the birds, but in the movie he is too old and lazy to even fly, something only he is believed to know among all the residents of Bird Island.
Chuck
Yellow Chuck is the fast-thinking, fast-talking bird who zips around the island at 100mph, just like his character in the game who speeds up when the screen is tapped. Chuck, the offers endless commentary that is rather amusing.
Bomb
Bomb, the black bird, is usually calm most of the time, but if he gets upset, he explodes.
The birds in the movie have arms while in the games the Angry Birds are decidedly wing-less. The arms in the movie can’t even be classed as wings as they have fingers which allow the characters to hold things. This was no doubt an easy decision for the animators to make — as it allows the birds to do so much more than they would without them.
The Angry Birds Movie is written by Jon Vitti — famous for his work on The Simpsons. He penned 25 episodes for the series, making him the third most-used Simpsons writer. He was one of 11 writers used on 2007’s The Simpsons Movie, as well as the movies Ice Age and Robots.
To promote The Angry Birds Movie, Rovio Entertainment had a massive balloon version made of the main character Red — a 45ft tall, to take part in the 2015 annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The balloon measured 45.5feet tall and 44feet long, and showed Red running forward with an egg under one of his arms.
