PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has completed work on three power projects with 56 megawatts capacity in different districts which will start generation by end of current year.

Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) Chief Executive Officer Akbar Ayub told Dawn that the three completed projects included Daral Khwar (Swat) 36.6 megawatt, Ranolia (Kohistan) 17 megawatt and Machai (Mardan) 2.6 megawatt.

He said work on these projects had already been completed and power distribution would be started once the process of laying transmission line was completed. Work on transmission line, he said was underway.

Some of the hydropower projects, he said had been completed by the provincial government from its own resources while some others had been advertised to engage private sector as the province could not provide the required funds for the purpose.

He said the provincial government was engaged in completion of energy projects on a fast-track basis in order to pull the province out of current energy crisis and strengthen the province’s economy by producing cheap electricity through hydropower resources.

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued here on Sunday, Secretary Energy & Power Engr Naeem Khan strictly asked the contractors, consultants and project directors to maintain quality and complete the projects within stipulated period.

He issued the directives during his visits to the sites of Jabori hydropower project in Mansehra, Karora in Shangla, Ranolia in Kohistan and Daral Khwar in Swat.
