KARACHI: A young doctor was found dead inside the Civil Hospital Karachi under mysterious circumstances on Friday, police said.

Dr Anil Kumar, 32, was found dead inside the intensive care unit II of the surgical department, where he was performing his duty, said Eidgah SHO Naeemuddin.

The officer said the doctor had gone to the ICU at around 5:30am. However, at around 8:15am, the doctor was found dead.

The SHO said that he did not respond when someone staff member knocked at his room door in the morning as it was closed from inside. The door was broken open and he was found dead lying on his chair.

A syringe was also found on the spot.

Apparently the young doctor had administered an injection in his hand as it was bandaged, said the SHO.

The body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary where doctors reserved the cause of his death for chemical examination. The police officer said the seized syringe had been sent to the forensic laboratory for a test.

Meanwhile, additional police surgeon of the CHK Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi told Dawn that there were marks of ‘multiple injections’ on his both arms. He added that they were the same injections which were being used in the operation theatre to administer anesthesia. Dr Abbasi said samples of the injections had been sent to the drug testing laboratory.
