LAHORE: A man in Vehari district allegedly killed his two sisters in the name of "honour" for marrying the persons of their choice, police sources told Dawn on Saturday.
"Nasir Hussain killed his two sisters, Ghazala and Kausar for marrying outside their caste and later fled the area," said Station House Office (SHO) Mitro police station Mehar Riaz.
The police officer said that the victims' father Atta Muhammad Bhatti registered a First Information Report (FIR) in Mitro police station against his son Nasir Hussain for killing Ghazala, 22, and Kausar, 20, days before their formal wedding ceremony.
“The brother shot dead both the sisters yesterday and fled the site,” the officer said, adding that a search was underway. “It is a simple case of killing for honour.”
Father of the family Atta Mohammad told reporters that Hussain had “destroyed everything”.
“He ruined my family, he destroyed us, he destroyed everything” Mohammad said.
The perpetrators of so-called honour killings — in which the victim, normally a woman, is killed by a relative — often walk free because they can seek forgiveness for the crime from another family member.
The killing comes weeks after popular social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch was killed in Multan for 'honour', sending shock waves across the country, prompting widespread criticism of so-called honour killings.
Women rights activist and politicians called for renewed efforts to curb the menace that has plagued the country for decades.
On July 21, a committee comprising lawmakers from both the lower and upper houses of the parliament unanimously approved two bills aimed at tackling honour killings and boosting rape convictions.

The reason of killing the sister because they wanted to marry someone they like, although in some other caste is no reason to be brutal.
I believe, maybe, it will take a century or two to change such horrible attitudes in this country and that only if they are educated religiously by the country.

Plagued by years of terrible governance, lack of governance and abject corruption Pakistan is hurtling towards a dangerous self destructive climax. Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif, preceded by other incompetents have been unable to solve the terrorism problem, driven the economy to shambles and fostered a society that is mostly destroying itself. It is a social evil that persists in our society that needs to be dealt aggressively and carefully. There is a need to launch awareness programmes across the country informing people that honour killing is a human foe and contrary to Islam teachings.

I believe the Honour killing is mostly related to property. In the bill being passed the victims property should go to other the members legally entitled to minus the person(s) involved in Honour killings. You will see the crime rate will fall down considerably.

@salman waheed Very true. Islam gives right to chose partner for marriage. Consultation with parents is definitely advisable. But if there is conflict on decision, let the young person make her/his decision and live with it. There is no insult in letting a person select their life partner as long its done properly in keeping with islamic traditions. Surprising that religious and political leaders do not speak out clearly and loudly to condemn such killings. May be some do not want to offend their political followers?

From sociology perspective, to marry out of once caste is taboo in closed society, a society in which no individuals are allowed to marry within their caste.
But in Pakistan society, a open society in which individuals--both male and female-- are independent to marry of their own choice, practice of killing of females, for marrying out of caste, is very jaw-dropping.

Lament as much as you can; but do something to stop this nonsense and un-Islamic attitude of people. I have a suggestion that the government must start, as soon as possible, a program to train the Mullahs from all over Pakistan in Islamic Sharia. The Mullahs I think can spread the word and tell people what is wrong and what is right. It is their duty. In their Jumma Khutbas instead of cursing USA they must educate people. The government can use Mullahs or any other means in this regard but people's training is must to stop this nonsense.

I don't understand why the authority looks not serious enough in controlling this gruesome, horrible & disgusting crime. The process of legal system is so long and so slow that the case is forgotten. The time limit for punishing such criminals should not be more than 4 weeks from arrest of the culprit. Mostly these crimes are common in non educated poor areas where a person becomes very sensitive with honour that in fact is no honour at all.

Unless we change our mindset that there is no honor in killing it will continue.we have to study the deep cultural values that is being superseded by ethical,relogious and moral values, we are supposed to practised.Since belief determines behavior, doesn't it make sense that we should be teaching ethical, moral values in every home and in every school in Pakistan
