GUJRANWALA: The Punjab government approved six new colleges under the Annual Development Project and allocated Rs548.7 million for their construction, while Rs15 million were fixed for an overhead bridge from Government College for Women, Satellite Town, to its hostel.

Gujranwala Commissioner retired Capt Muhammad Asif told Dawn that Rs84.7 million had been fixed for Government Degree Boys College Adowali, Rs88 million for the construction of Government College Sohdra, Rs87.7 for Government Degree College Dilawar Cheema in Wazirabad tehsil, Rs87.7 million for Government Girls Degree College Jehlan in Nowshera Virkan tehsil, Rs95.5 million for Government Boys Degree College Aroop and Rs105 million for Government Girls Degree College Ladaywala.

He said reserved fund would be used on merit.

FOUND DEAD: A girl was found dead in Mughalpura, Gakkhar, over an unidentified issue. Police sent the body for autopsy.

A police official told Dawn that Shagufta had recently got married to Aqeel, a taxi driver. She was found dead in her house late on Tuesday.

Police claimed she had been strangled as they found marks on her neck.

He said the police reached the spot on receiving information, took the body into custody and sent it for an autopsy.

Shagufta’s family told police they were unaware how and why she had been strangled. Police are investigating the issue.

TERMINATED: Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asif Zafar Cheema terminated three officials on charges of corruption and negligence while 48 officials were punished.

The SSP told Dawn that Sub-Inspector Saeed Ahmed, Head Constable Talat and Constable Waheed had been terminated from services on charges of corruption and negligence. Moreover, annual promotions of four officials were seized, 14 were censured, salary of one was deducted and 29 fined.

He added that directions were given to deputy superintendents of police concerned to take strict action against officials found involved in corruption and violating the code of conduct.
